DEAR JUNO OR ANY OTHER TEENAGER IN THIS SITUATION,
Only very strong women could do what you did. I am impressed by the maturity levels you rose to so you could carry your child to full-term. And then giving them away to a mother who needs them. It takes a lot and you learned so much from this experience. Of course having unprotected sex is irresponsible, but you already know that. I'm sure you've been told that time and time again, on top of you punishing yourself. But if you look past that, you did a very honorable thing. You accepted your mistake, realized and acknowledged that you weren't going to be a fit mother, and you sought out an alternative to abortion.
Of course abortion is an option, but in my opinion, adoption is a better option. And you were willing to have your body be physically manipulated and pushed to its limits, and give the child up for adoption. If you had chosen abortion at the start and pushed your mistake under a rug, you would've missed out on so much knowledge you know now. You now know that you aren't invincible and consequences do result from your actions and mistakes. I know this experience will make you think twice on a lot of your decisions. Because no matter how well your situation turned out, you probably do not want to go through anything similar again. You were forced to grow up much faster than your peers, and that can't be something you'd like to go back on.
I'm very proud of the decision you made!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Anthony
